For a lot of people, a rental property doesn’t often feel like their home, but there are small and easy ways to make your humble abode feel more like yours.

1.    Lights, camera, action
Lighting can play a huge part in creating ambience and warmth in a home. Whether it’s changing your light fixture to side lamps, or changing the bulb to a warm white colour, these can play a huge part in setting the atmosphere within your home. Similarly, mirrors can create space and reflect lighting well so use these strategically in your home.

2.    Go green
Bring the outside into your home with some house plants! Not only do they allow you to bring your own style to the place, but they add colour and texture to any room. Get creative with some unique pots, or perhaps place them on bookshelves to mix up the height in the space.

3.    Utilise rugs
Rugs are a great way to add warmth to non-carpeted floors, and can be used to section off areas in a large space which works especially well in open plan homes. Again, this is a way of getting your style and taste into your rental which can showcase your personality and make a statement.

4.    Statement pieces
If you want to add a wow factor to a room then statement pieces are the way to go. Whether it be a painting, print or vase, they can be the centre focus of a room and definitely grab attention.

5.    Colourful furniture
If your rental property is unfurnished then this is a great opportunity to buy some furniture that you love to really design your home. You can create your own colour schemes and really get creative! Also, you will likely take that furniture with you if and when you move so furniture is an investment for you.
