>Tufnell Park Station

Burghleys Estate Agents is an independent agency based right in the heart of Tufnell Park, on Fortess Road. We offer both properties to let and to buy, and we’ve been here in Tufnell Park for nearly 15 years so who better to tell you a bit about the area!

We’ll start off with the basics… Located in North London, Tufnell Park covers both Islington and Camden boroughs. Although not a huge area in itself, it falls into three postcode areas:

  • N7 covers Holloway
  • N19 is the Upper Holloway postcode (near to Archway)
  • NW5 covers Kentish Town and Dartmouth Park

History and current day
Tufnell Park has a longstanding history which we’ll take a quick look at. In 1753, William Tufnell inherited the manor of Barnsbury from his father in law, hence the name Tufnell. The manor, which is now demolished, once stood where the Holloway Odeon now is. The area was known for its dairy farms but in 1822 the Tufnells were granted building leases, and from this created Tufnell Park Road. From this point on, the area was built up more and more and in 1907 Tufnell Park station opened.

Back to 2020, Tufnell Park is known for having many famous faces living in the area including the actors Damien Lewis, Helen McCrory and Laura Carmichael (Downton Abbey fame) as well as politicians Ed Miliband, Neil Kinnock and Keir Starmer. The area proves very popular with artists and musicians too.

Parks and Recreation
Despite being in London, Tufnell Park offers a lot of green space and parks for residents with playing fields and parks locally featuring a cricket net, football pitches and children’s playgrounds. Just a stone's throw away is Hampstead Heath which has beautiful large green spaces, and Regent’s Park is a close neighbour too.
