Now is a fantastic time to sell, but before you get your house on the market you’ll want to ensure your house is looking its best in the eyes of potential buyers. A lot of homeowners hold sentimental value in their homes, but when it comes to selling you need it to appeal to the future buyer. So, follow our tips below and it will put you in a good place to sell!

1. Decluttering is key
The easiest top tip we have is to declutter your home. Go as minimal as you can by removing family photos, and any knick-knacks as you want the future buyer to picture themselves there – the simpler the better.

You don’t want the house to be completely bare though so try larger statement pieces such as pieces of art of large vases to keep a personal touch and help it feel spacious.

2. Make the room feel taller
Making a room feel taller will again enhance the feel of spaciousness, which is extremely valuable if your floor space isn’t massive. You can do this by placing shelves and artwork higher on the walls. If features are positioned upwards in the space, this is where the eye will naturally go. It also enhances the feeling of movement and flow and creates a sense of openness.

3. Maximising mirrors
Mirrors are a classic way to make a room feel bigger - when used strategically. A great option is to place the mirror opposite a room’s window, which will reflect the light around the room and will reflect the view.

Also, mix it up with shapes and sizes around the home, perhaps fitting in with the theme of a room. You can choose mirrors that you will want to take with you to your next home so they are investment pieces!

Alongside mirrors, you want as much natural light as possible so keep the windows open if you can, and purchase curtains that help let natural light through them.

4. Lighten up the colour scheme
As much as you love may love bold, bright colours and designs… not everyone does, so it is best to keep the colour palette light. A lick of paint is a low cost way to make a big difference to a home, so shades of white are ideal, and if not light and bright colours are great. Light wall colours can also help a room appear much wider and higher.

5. Place your furniture wisely
Your instinct may be to put furniture against the walls to maximise space… but, to create a feeling of roominess, you should always leave a little gap in between the sides of your furniture and the walls.

Along with the decluttering advice, keep furniture to a minimum. If you do want statement pieces, such as art of a mirror, be sure to hang it on the wall to keep valuable floor space clear.

We hope these tips help you get your home ready for sale. If you’re looking to sell your home in north/north west London we would love to hear from you when your home is ready to go on the market.
