Exchange, tick. Now it’s time to think about completion – an exciting but stressful time, so we’re here to help with a few tips on how to reduce stress levels.

1)    Start sourcing boxes
Once you’ve exchanged it’s time to get packing, but before that you need to have boxes. There is the option to buy boxes online, however we’d suggest looking on Facebook Marketplace, Freecycle etc as many people will be giving them away. There is nothing worse than starting to pack up your house and running out of boxes, so be sure to have more than enough.

2)    Research removal companies or self-drive vans
Whether you’re choosing to use a professional removal company or you plan on driving a van yourself, it’s best to start looking into companies and getting quotes. A lot of people tend to move on a Friday, so if that’s you, you’ll need to get your option booked in early. Everyone is different and will have different budgets, but professional removal companies are a great option as there is no time limit on returning the van and they will have insurance in case anything breaks in transit.

3)    Start packing!
No matter what size your current home is you’ll find there is so much stuff to pack! Packing can be extremely time consuming and stressful so the earlier you start the better. Try and do some packing every day or after work then ramp it up at the weekends to ensure you’re not up all night the night before moving.

4)    Label boxes with desired room
Make everyone’s lives easier on moving day by labelling each box as you finish packing. When you get to your new home you can show your removal company, or helpers if you’re doing it yourself, where is room is so that your boxes can be placed in the correct rooms – you’ll thank us for this when it comes to unpacking!

5)    Think about your essentials box
When it comes to moving day, you will need to forward think and ensure you have some key items on you throughout the day that doesn’t get mixed up with your packed items. Make sure you have any phone numbers you may need (estate agents, solicitors, removal company etc), as well as your phone charger, and of course a kettle, tea, and coffee!

Hopefully these tips can help you plan your moving day and reduce stress on the day.
